The Shed Chronicle Part V

The roof is done. Next up is the siding.

Since I've decided to go with sheet siding, I needed to add studs at the halfway point on the end walls. That was today's job, along with ordering eleven sheets of siding.

The siding is to be delivered tomorrow morning.

Siding Delivered -- FRIDAY, JULY 20, 2018

And three pieces of siding installed.

The structure now has a great deal more rigidity; it can withstand wind gusts.

Three More Pieces Of Siding Added -- SATURDAY, JULY 21, 2018

One More Piece Of Siding Added -- SUNDAY, JULY 22, 2018

It rained for much of the day, so I didn't get a lot done.

And Another Piece Of Siding Up -- MONDAY, JULY 23, 2018

Gable Ends Sided -- TUESDAY, JULY 24, 2018

And Potential Trouble Surfacing

I'll have to add eavestroughs at the front and rear to forestall the erosion effects of rainfall.

And hairline cracks have appeared in two tiles.

Things are settling into place, for better or worse.

Windows Trial-Fitted -- WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2018

'Don't have a photo. The windows I bought come without fastening holes, so I drilled holes and trial-fitted the windows in their openings with fasteners. That turned out well. I just need to buy some caulking compound before I install the windows for good.

Eavestrough Started -- THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2018

I found a Plastmo product at Rona that one man can install unassisted, so I went with that. Here's a view of my trial progress so far from this morning.

And A Theft

At Rona this afternoon, I left my cart with some more eavestrough items on it unattended for a bit in the roofed loading area while I brought my car over. (It happened to be raining heavily, else I would have wheeled the cart directly out to my car in the parking lot.) Just as I was getting back to the cart, a big white pickup truck left in a hurry. I looked at the cart, and saw that one of two lengths of downspout pipe that I'd just bought was no longer there.

Hmmph. Nothing to be done; the low-life got away with it. May he bask in his karma.

Update To "And A Theft" -- FRIDAY, JULY 27, 2018

'Turns out I was full of shit. When I got to Rona today, they had the downspout pipe waiting for me. It must have rolled off the cart, but the truck speeding off caused me to leap to the conclusion that it had been stolen. All I would have needed to do was to look down, and I would have found it. 'Time I was stashed away in a home with all the other irredeemable geezers.

Anyway, the eavestrough is up, rear and front.

Windows Installed And Caulked -- SATURDAY, JULY 28, 2018

And the front centre sided, in preparation for a door. The door is going to be difficult.

Siding Done And Doors Up -- SUNDAY, JULY 29, 2018

Door Details -- MONDAY, JULY 30, 2018
  • Added barrel bolts to the left side door inside to secure it closed.
  • Added a lockable hasp and a door handle.

Floor Repainted -- TUESDAY, JULY 31, 2018

The floor's paint job took a beating during construction of the shed. I had enough paint left to give it a fresh coat.

And that's about it for now. The shed is built.
